(Delivered to the new mailing list)
Welcome to the new newsletter! As you probably know I’ve been Yahooing my
news to you direct but unfortunately (or fortunately really!) there have been
so many subscriptions of late that Yahoo can’t cope. So here we are, enjoy
and take care…
General Gossip
Where to start? In January’s news I omitted to mention that I had been taking
part in a series of school talks about the music industry for Hi-Arts. This was
great fun although the pupils were sometimes a little daunting…most of them
were very cool.
I may well be doing something very similar in March, which will hopefully help
some budding artistes on their way (or put them off- who knows?).
Now I know, I know, I have been fobbing you all off with tiny little missives
the past few news shots so I am going to make up for it on this one…
This month I have been working seriously hard in my day job (the geology stuff)
pulling all-nighters left right and centre and to be honest, ruining any sort
of social life I may have had. I can only say I am quite glad I am single ‘cos
no one would be able to put up with waking up in a bed full of books surrounded
by 19 zillion cups of half drunk coffee in numerous states of growth, only to
find me hunched over the laptop typing furiously away having left the tv on and
the shower running…
While all this is going on, the roof is still leaking, songs are left incomplete
and what’s worse…I have no idea who all these people are on The Bill
anymore. Actually this is a good thing, it means I have finally broken the ‘watch
any crap on telly and not shift all night’ phase of my development in single
life.
I now have a dvd player thanks to Stuart Mitchell and have been watching High
Fidelity on repeat for 3 weeks. I must buy some more dvds…
Musically I have been writing like it is going out of fashion although much
of the songs have not been completed due to geology stuff. I managed to complete
two for the Newcastle gig though…
Gigs Etc…Newcastle Opera House (Feb 21).
I decided not to do this gig with Blair due to time constraints on practising.
Stuart and his friend Barry and I drove down to Newcastle on Friday morning. It
was a glorious day (hangover aside) and we made good time.
Newcastle (well the bit I saw) was very cool and there were some great restaurants.
Yours truly of course fulfilled her mandatory tour of eateries and eventually
we had Tapas down the road from the Opera House and the next day further into
town we had some Greek fayre.
When we got to the venue Dave ‘Squeaky’ Stewart (drummer and generally
crazy dude) was there along with John Young (Singer, Songwriter and Keys man)
and Andy Williamson (sound man extraordinaire). The rest turned up some time when
I was out enjoying various culinary delights and were soundchecking when I got
back.
Dave had asked about doing some rhythm on my set so I brought down my djembe for
him to bang on (and very well he did too- even with me strumming in the unique
McCafferty time).
The venue is totally cool btw spent a wee bit of time investigating…
Round about 8pm it was time for me to go on. I had decided to play standing
up for a change (for the first time in years actually) and was more than a little
nervous about messing it up. Short of blasting the mic a few times with some P’s
and B’s it wasn’t too bad and the crowd seemed to really enjoy it
and the new songs went down very well.
Website News
The website has been officially taken over by Grafixation. This will mean the
site is updated on a regular basis with lots of yummy info on gigs and projects
etc.
I’ve been reading through the site just to make sure all info is correct
etc and realised that so much has changed since we started the online thing that
we’ll have to do a revamp. For a start, the Q and A area- if someone asked
me those questions now, many of the answers would have changed as I have found
so many new artists to listen to and my circumstances are so different now. I
will be looking for more questions soon so pile ‘em into the yahoo group
or email me direct through the contact form on the site, which is now working
and I’ll take a look…
The gallery will get an overhaul (including references to the photographer)
and a new bio encompassing more of what’s been going on will be fabricated
for your viewing pleasure.
A shop is well on the way to construction and will include NWTK tapes (running
out now), the Radiaxial CD, the Jo! T shirt in Xtra Large, Large and Ladies (one
size, fits a 14 down to an, albeit slightly baggy 8) and soon the official Games
For One T-shirt artwork by Mark Wilkinson.
Nothing Whispered to Katy 10th Anniversary!
I’ve decided that since I have been promising to put NWTK on cd instead
of the archaic tapes I’m going to do this towards the end of the year. The
reason for the delay is that next year will be the TENTH anniversary of the recording
of NWTK and to mark the rather scary event, the NWTK Tenth Anniversary CD will
also include some cool extras and hopefully will have some CD ROM/DVD stuff as
well.
Righto, better sign off. Love to all, and take care…
Jo
